The June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives seeks a term-limited part-time position responsible for processing the J.D. Disalvatore collection. Responsibilities include processing the collection, creating physical and digital access to the material, and creating a finding aid. Applicants must have strong knowledge and experience in transferring and handling born-digital material as well as managing cloud storage.


About the collection: J.D. Disalvatore (March 5, 1966 – August 24, 2017) was a film and television director and producer and a lesbian activist. Along with her film credits, she wrote for queer film outlets and was also the Festival Manager for Outfest. Disalvatore’s collection consists of 72 hard drives of photographs and videos.


The position is a part of a California State Library LGBTQ+ History grant and will begin June 22, 2026 through completion of processing the collection. The position is 10-20 hours per week, $36/hour. This position will be on-site at the June L. Mazer Lesbian Archives located in West Hollywood, California.

Required Qualifications
Experience in archives, special collections, digital preservation, or related cultural heritage work.
Expertise in processing born-digital materials, digital storage, and long-term preservation practices.
Demonstrated experience digitizing or transferring outdated analog and born digital material.
Familiarity with archival description, metadata creation, and digital file management.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a nonprofit, mission-driven environment.
Sensitivity to the ethical handling of community-based and culturally significant materials.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with LGBTQ+ archives, queer history, or community archives.
Familiarity with film, video, and audio preservation workflows.
Knowledge of archival management systems and digital asset tools.
