A bit more information from the sender:
This role is for collection development in a public library setting. However, my reason for sharing it with this community is that I see meaningful overlap between archives, records management, and collection development. While the work isn’t identical, all three areas involve good stewardship, metadata, preservation, and making thoughtful decisions about information resources. I was hoping that someone with an archives or records management background who was interested in applying those skills in a public library setting might find the position appealing.
I also recognize that archival positions can be highly competitive and sometimes geographically limited. For someone looking to broaden their experience within the information professions, collection development can be a complementary career path that builds on many of the same core competencies while offering experience in a different type of library work.
Additionally, our library does have a local history center and digital history archives. While this position is not currently responsible for managing those collections, they remain an area of ongoing discussion as we evaluate our future space and service needs. We also maintain portions of our collections in off-site storage that is still holdable by patrons, so experience thinking strategically about collections and long-term stewardship is certainly relevant.
