We are seeking an efficient, detail-oriented Independent Contractor (1099) to provide professional Document Scanning Services for a short-term, project-based pilot. In this role, you will operate as an independent service provider responsible for digitizing physical documents and books using specialized scanning equipment.

This is a one-time, short-term contract located on-site in the Washington, D.C. area. The ideal contractor must live within a 30-minute commuting distance of Downtown D.C. to easily facilitate daily project milestones.

Scope of Work & Key Responsibilities

Document Digitization: Efficiently scan physical documents and books using flatbed and specialized book scanners provided at the project site.
Quality Control: Independently review and verify that all scanned images are clear, legible, complete, and properly aligned according to project standards.
File Management: Perform basic data entry and file naming structure according to project guidelines.
Project Coordination: Coordinate with the Project Manager to provide progress updates and ensure daily volume targets are met.
Equipment Care: Handle delicate archival materials with care and perform basic troubleshooting on scanning equipment as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications

Experience: Prior experience operating flatbed scanners, book scanners, or working in document management, archiving, or data digitization is preferred.
Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy (navigating file systems, saving documents, using scanning software).
Attributes: Strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently to meet project deadlines.
Location: Must reside in or near Washington, D.C., and be within a strict 30-minute commute of Downtown D.C.
Tax Compliance: Must be eligible to work in the US as an independent contractor and provide a completed Form W-9 prior to starting the contract.
Compensation & Logistics

Contract Billing Rate: $20.00 / hour (Gross payout via invoice; no tax withholdings)
Contract Type: Independent Contractor (Form 1099-NEC)
Project Duration: Short-Term / Project-Based (One-time pilot)
Location: Washington, D.C. (On-site)
Invoicing & Payment: Weekly or bi-weekly invoicing. Payments are issued directly to your bank account via ACH transfer.
Independent Contractor Notice: As a 1099 contractor, you are operating as an independent business. You will be responsible for your own self-employment taxes, insurances, and equipment care. No company-sponsored benefits, health insurance, or paid time off are provided under this business-to-business agreement.
