Position: Cataloging Archivist
Location: Naperville, Illinois
1 year contract


Our US Corporate Archives is responsible for the oversight of the permanent records and historical artifacts for BMO Financial Group US operations which dates back to 1847.

Reporting to the Corporate Archivist, the position consists of cataloging a rich collection of heritage records and artefacts which document our historical operations in the US. Responsibilities include accessioning, cataloging, digitizing, and performing preservation activities for permanent storage. Occasional research activities will be required. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of working independently with limited on-site supervision following training.


SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Primary Activities: Cataloging historical and born digital collections.
• Helping to facilitate the transfer of records and artifacts to the department
• Performing basic preservation activities to safeguard the material
• Cataloging all records and artefacts using inhouse standards
• Digitizing collections for accessibility

Secondary Activities: Assist in responding to research requests
• Perform research activities using the database to respond to internal and external research requests
• Digitize applicable records/images to respond to requests
• Review access and copyright information for records


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge:
• Graduate degree in MLIS, specializing in Archival Science
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Demonstrated experience describing and providing access to archival records
• Training in archival management and techniques of preservation
• Knowledge of emerging trends in archival processing, access & management
• Knowledge of specialized archival software
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office

Skills:
• Strong communication and inter-personal skills
• Excellent writing skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
• Strong organizational/time management skills
• Experience with identification & management of confidential and other sensitive documents
• Archival skills in preservation & handling of delicate materials to industry standards.
• Frequent movement, moderate exertion and the ability to lift or move up to 40lbs is required.
• A driver’s license
