Position Summary
We are seeking a part-time Digitization Technician who will support the digitization and documentation of archival collections by scanning historical materials. Working under the direction of the Archivist, this position requires careful handling of historic materials, attention to detail, and the ability to perform repetitive tasks with accuracy and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
• Scan archival materials, including photographs, documents, scrapbooks, maps, and other historical records.
• Handle fragile and unique archival materials using established preservation and care practices.
• Create and assign object identifiers for archival materials.
• Create and maintain basic descriptive metadata.
• Organize and manage digital files according to established naming and storage conventions.
• Track digitization progress and maintain project documentation.
• Follow established procedures for the security and stewardship of archival collections.
Required Qualifications
• Master’s degree in Library and Information Science, Public History, Museum Studies, or a related field, or currently enrolled in a relevant graduate program.
• Experience digitizing and handling archival, museum, or other historical materials.
• Experience creating metadata or descriptive records.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and sit for extended periods.
Must be willing and able to work independently.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working in an archives, library, or museum setting.
• Familiarity with collection management systems, metadata standards, and archival best practices.
• Experience with archival processing and digital preservation.
Ideal for a current MLIS student or recent graduate, this position provides hands-on experience working with archival collections in a collaborative and detail-oriented environment.
