Job Title: Associate Digital Archivist
Position Overview:
The Industrial Archives & Library (IAL) is seeking a dedicated, experienced and knowledgeable Associate Digital Archivist to join our growing organization. The individual in this role will be responsible for the coordination of the digital asset management system and electronic cataloging systems, ingest of born digital and digitized analogs into Preservica, maintenance of metadata standards and file naming conventions. The Associate Digital Archivist will also oversee any volunteers and contractors engaged in digitization or the fulfilment of digital orders for reproduction.
About IAL:
IAL is a vibrant, growing, stable stand-alone archive specializing in the preservation of American industrial history. We are currently in the planning stages for a state-of-the-art facility in Bethlehem, PA.
Key Responsibilities:
• Metadata Management: Create, update, and standardize metadata records to improve searchability and organization.
• Ingest and Digitization: Process born-digital materials and scan physical records into digital formats using best practices.
• System Maintenance: Work with IT and outside vendors to maintain Preservica and internal server architecture.
• User Support: Assist researchers, staff, and the public with navigating digital collections and troubleshooting access issues.
• Volunteer Supervision: Supervise local and remote volunteers assisting with digital projects.
• Website Maintenance: Make changes and updates to content on both our website and Preservica’s public interface using WordPress.
Qualifications:
• Masters degree in Library and Information Science, Archives, History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
• 1-3 years of experience in digital archiving or a Digital Archivist Specialist credential from SAA.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Experience with Preservica and ArchivesSpace is a plus.
