Please include instructions for how to apply.: The purpose of this contract is to procure archival services to physically process, describe, and prepare open-reel audio tapes for digitization. The audio tapes are part of the Arhoolie Records collection, a record label whose commercial assets are now distributed by Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, and whose archival components are cared for in the Ralph Rinzler Folklife Archives and Collections.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Contractor shall inventory and prepare for digitization select open reel tapes and related documents from the Arhoolie Records collection, under the direction of Smithsonian Folkways Recordings (SFR) and in collaboration with the Ralph Rinzler Folklife Archives and Collections (RRFAC), divisions of the Center for Folklife & Cultural Heritage.
SPECIFIC TASKS:
The contractor shall perform work as follows:
Inventory at the item level nearly 3,000 open reel audio tapes in collection, flagging approximately 650 tapes of Cajun and Zydeco recordings
Physically arrange all tapes according to physical dimensions and format and apply unique identifiers
Separate and arrange ancillary paper materials from Cajun and Zydeco tape boxes
Conduct physical assessment and rehousing for Cajun and Zydeco tapes, including condition reporting and re-housing of poorly housed tapes with proper cases and boxes
Prepare Cajun and Zydeco tapes for digitization in consultation with audiovisual archivist
Arrange, rehouse, and describe business records, flagging files related to Cajun and Zydeco content
Digitize ancillary paper materials from audio tape boxes
Digitize pertinent business records
Compile all pertinent content into EAD finding aid
