OPUS Archives and Research Center is seeking a part-time lab technician to aid in furthering the mission to preserve and extend access to the special collections of eminent scholars in the fields of depth psychology, mythology, and the humanities.

Under direction of the Archivist, the Lab Technician will work primarily to create digital masters of audiovisual material; documents; and photographic prints, slides, and negatives. Responsibilities include using in-house and archival standards in assessing and preparing fragile materials for digitization, digitizing materials, creating description, recording technical and administrative metadata, and other projects as necessary.

The ideal candidate must be detail oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to create clear and concise notes; possess strong organizational skills; ability to work independently but with sound judgment for when to ask for clarification, for team involvement, or to report problems to a supervisor; possess the ability to work meticulously with a high degree of care towards rare and fragile materials for long periods of time; and maintain a clean and orderly production area. A minimum of two years of experience working with audiovisual material in an archive or museum environment is preferred.

Required skills include a working knowledge of audiovisual recording and editing equipment and software, audiovisual file types, and archival organization and storage methods. Applicants should also have familiarity with using scanning equipment and software.

The position requires a high degree of focus in a technical lab environment, with extended periods of computer/keyboard use while sitting or standing; frequent reaching, bending, stooping; and ability to lift boxes up to 40 pounds.
