Please include instructions for how to apply.: The primary purpose of this position is to manage and administer a comprehensive statewide program to identify and appraise potential donations for historical and research value, as well as negotiate with potential donors. Section staff seek to preserve, protect, arrange, describe, and make available to the general public the “private and unofficial historical records and other documentary materials relating to the history of North Carolina.” These materials include private manuscript collections, photographs and other audiovisual materials, map collections, military collections, organization records, academic records from defunct post-secondary schools, research libraries, original works of art, and other materials housed at the State Archives in Raleigh and at the regional repositories in Asheville and Manteo. This position will require the Archivist III to have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, as well as establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, government officials, and the public. The person in this position must have the ability to interpret and apply thorough knowledge of concepts of fair use, intellectual property rights, copyright law, and state and federal public records laws.
