The Archives Imaging Technician will prepare and scan photographs, documents, and other print materials found within archival collections to create high-quality digital scans for preservation and access purposes. This position may also digitize and process microfilmed newspapers.
Duties and Tasks
The successful applicant will follow proper handling guidelines to prepare materials for scanning and adhere to established standards while operating a variety of scanners and scanning equipment. This position performs minor editing of images (such as cropping and rotating), captures preservation (TIFF) and access (JPEG) file versions, and uses standardized naming conventions when saving or transferring files. The position may also assist in newspaper digitization projects by scanning microfilm using a Mekel Mach12 scanner and processing digitized content using QuantumProcess software.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or GED.
Ability to complete repetitive and meticulous tasks with attention to detail.
Must be self-motivated.
Familiarity with scanning procedures and related technologies.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience scanning a large number of documents and/or photographs in a professional setting.
Experience using a variety of scanners, including large format scanners.
Experience with Photoshop or similar photo editing software.
