History Nebraska is seeking an organized, engaged, self-starter to serve as a Digitization Technician in the Digital Curation Department. As a strategic goal of our agency, History Nebraska is ramping up our digitization efforts to provide access to historical collections beyond the borders of our state. As a key member of the Digital Curation Team, this position is responsible for digitizing and describing History Nebraska’s archival collections.
History Nebraska is a statewide educational institution that connects people to the past through our library and research center, conservation facility, interpretive sites, and the state archeology and historic preservation offices. Job Duties:
Scan archival collections into digital format
Maintain appropriate workflows and quality assurance practices
Keep digital files organized on the server
Use controlled vocabularies and style standards to create Qualified Dublin Core metadata records for digitized archival materials in Preservica
Edit images of archival materials as needed in Adobe Photoshop
Handle all archival collections using appropriate methods of safe handling
Pull and put away archival collections from the stacks
Assist in departmental projects
Work closely with the Digitization Projects Coordinator, who guides workflows and processes
Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to: helping other departments; participating in internal committees or community outreach events.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Excellent computer skills (working knowledge of Google Drive, Windows, etc)
Must be self-directed and work independently, but be willing to work as part of a team
Experience scanning with multiple types of equipment
Excellent communication skills
Ability to prioritize, problem solve, and monitor project cycles
Knowledge of appropriate handling of archival materials
Demonstrated understanding of metadata and controlled vocabularies for describing archival collections
Knowledge of Preservica, ArchivesSpace, and digitization standards preferred.
