Working closely with the Director of Research and the Research & Archives Coordinator, the Library & Archive Intern will focus on special projects within the gallery’s internal archives and library. We are in the process of consolidating and reorganizing our archives and library and are looking for a highly organized and detail-oriented Intern to assist with processing and cataloging incoming acquisitions. In addition, the Intern will assist with day-to-day management of our onsite reference library, such as organizing, shifting, labeling, and special projects, as assigned. The position will be primarily based at our Chelsea location, but some hours at our offsite archival storage facility in Bushwick will be required. Qualified candidates for this position should be familiar with handling books and ephemera, processing collections, relevant databases, and have a keen interest in institutional records management. Some knowledge of and interest in twentieth-century and contemporary art is preferred.
Primary responsibilities include:
Assisting the Research & Archives Coordinator with the accessioning and processing of incoming archival materials.
Appraising the current collection holdings, rehousing material and applying basic preservation when needed.
Expanding item level descriptions of archival collection material.
Collaborating on special projects, such as the survey and arrangement of unique ephemera.
Reference library reorganization projects and other special library projects, as assigned.
The ideal candidate should be:
Enrolled in or recent graduate of a MLIS or an accredited Archives program.
Familiar with applications in the Adobe Creative Cloud.
An efficient writer and communicator.
This internship runs from end of May – beginning of August. Position hours are Flexible, 2-4 days/week, Monday-Saturday. Internship is paid at NYC minimum wage of $15/hour.
