TARO Member Outreach Consultant

About TARO

Texas Archival Resources Online (TARO) is a statewide consortium and finding aid aggregation platform hosted by the University of Texas Libraries. TARO provides online access to finding aids from historical societies, archives, museums, libraries, local governments, and other institutions across Texas.

Position Overview

TARO seeks one or more experienced archivists to conduct one-on-one outreach consultations with member and prospective member institutions as part of a Texas State Library-funded program. This contract position supports TARO’s member services and strategic planning efforts by providing direct technical assistance to Texas archival repositories of all sizes and types.

Responsibilities

· Contact member institutions via email to introduce the program and distribute a pre-call survey

· Review survey responses and prepare for individual consultation calls

· Conduct one-on-one video or phone consultations (30-90 minutes) covering finding aid issues, EAD validation errors, XML file management, and submission workflows

· Send follow-up emails summarizing call outcomes and providing relevant resources

· Maintain documentation of call outcomes and member data for TARO strategic planning purposes

· Research prospective members with remaining hours

Qualifications

Required:

· Graduate degree in library/archival science (MLS, MLIS, or equivalent) or equivalent professional experience

· Demonstrated experience with EAD encoding and archival finding aid standards (DACS)

· Experience working directly with archives, historical societies, or similar institutions

· Comfortable conducting one-on-one consultations or training sessions

· Strong written and verbal communication skills

· Daytime weekday availability

Preferred:

· Familiarity with XML validation and file management workflows

· Experience with archival collection management systems (ArchivesSpace, AtoM, or similar)

· Knowledge of the Texas archival community

Contract Terms

· Hours: 10-19 hours per week

· Duration: Through October 15, 2025

· Total hours: Not to exceed 285 hours (total combined team hours)

· Rate: $35/hour

· Remote position
