To all of you out there who host internships, please consider also posting your internship in the new SAA Internship Directory! I love to post internships here, but please spread the word about your internship a little farther with SAA’s help.
Hi Everyone,
First of all, I really appreciate all of you taking the time to share your opinions with me regarding my question posed in this post. I received about 20 comments in all via email, WordPress, and Twitter.
Note from 3/9/16: Thanks to all for your input! My decision on this issue is posted here.
Hi, Everyone!
I’ve been thinking a lot about whether to discontinue posting unpaid internships. I try to emphasize the paid ones by putting the word “paid” in the post title, but I have generally always posted unpaid internships as well. I will always continue to post paid internships.
I know that there are a lot of strong opinions about the ethics of unpaid internships. I have opinions of my own! However, if posting unpaid internship positions is still useful for a lot of you, I want to take that into account before I decide.
This post is also open to comments, should you want to make one. You may also email me with a private comment at archivesgig@gmail.com, or tweet comments publicly @archivesgig.
I’m leaving this poll up for two weeks, closing on March 9th. Thank you all so much for your time.
Hi Everyone,
I’m taking a vacation during the week of January 18. I’ll see you back here on January 25th! If you send me a job during this time, I’ll be sure to post it when I return!
Hi Everyone,
I’ll be on break for the rest of the year, returning on January 4th. I hope your last few days of 2015 are great!
If you email me a position, I’ll be happy to post it upon my return.
Warm Regards,
Meredith
Hi Everyone,
I’ll be out for the Thanksgiving holiday for the rest of this week. But before I leave you for the week, I want to thank all of you: You are the Job-senders, the Job-seekers, the Facebook-likers, and the Re-tweeters that really make Archives Gig the community tool that I always wanted it to be. Thank you all for taking the time to send me a job or spread the word about a cool-looking posting. I’ve talked to several people who found a position through Archives Gig, or they hired someone awesome after posting here, and each of those stories truly warms my whole heart. Thank you for being part of this wonderful community, and this amazing profession!
Whether you’re celebrating Thanksgiving or not, I wish you all the best!

Hi, Folks,
I’m doing my second annual BWCA camping trip later this week and all through next week. There are lots of loons in the northwoods, but no internet! If you send me a job within this date span, I will be happy to post it when I return on Monday, September 14th. If you’re looking for a job, I suggest checking out the resources listed in my About page.
Best Wishes,
Meredith
Kate Theimer over at ArchivesNext has been coordinating the Spontaneous Scholarship program: she’s raised over $30,000 over the last four years, and is working on year five now! This is a way for archivists to help other archivists through crowdfunding. The SAA annual meeting can be very expensive, and your generous donation can help your colleagues and soon-to-be-colleagues attend the meeting.
If you have the resources and inclination, please consider donating to this scholarship fund.
If you need a little financial help to attend the SAA Annual Meeting in Cleveland, you can find instructions for applying for a spontaneous scholarship here.
I’m on vacation for the next two weeks! See you all next month!
Please check the About section for job listing resources.
